Here’s another case study to watch in the area of innovation in publishing, which was announced after I wrote an academic paper on the subject in Publishing Research Quarterly at rdcu.be/s3nx – An incubator program from information company Thomson Reuters.
In July, 2017, Thomson Reuters announced a 6-12 month incubator program for FinTech, RegTech, LegalTech and NewsTech with 6 locations. They do not take equity. They provide office space, mentorship, data and tools (proprietary content and technology sandbox), introductions, partner resources (including up to $100K in Amazon Web Services), and the opportunity to participate in co-creation initiatives with Thomson Reuters, academia, customers, and other startups.
They are looking for startups in the area of:
- Artificial intelligence/machine learning
- Cognitive computing
- Cryptocurrency
- Distributed ledgers
- Big data
- Social sentiment
- Advanced analytics
- Machine readable news
- Automated data collection & analysis
The first startups are focused on FinTech:
- Open Mineral is an early stage Swiss start-up trying to disrupt the commodities market with a platform to directly connect the mines and smelters of physical commodities such as copper, zinc and lead.
- WealthArc is a cloud-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform for the $120 trillion investment management industry offering digital client interaction and real-time new generation investment management for family offices, wealth managers and private banks. The platform handles the integration of data, consolidation of assets and digital reporting as well as a robo-advisor offering to clients.
- Ariadne Business Analytics developed a FinTech risk management solution built on the open-source smart financial contract standard.
- SMART VALOR is blockchain startup set to enable borderless crypto finance. They are building a decentralized marketplace for tokenized alternative investments and secure custody for crypto assets.
